About this video
University of Liverpool Staff Open Meeting, 23 November 2020
For this open meeting, we heard from Dr Paula Harrison Woods, Director of Student Administration and Support, who shared details of how we have been supporting students during the pandemic; Professor Louise Kenny, Executive Pro-Vice-Chancellor for the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, who provided insight into Liverpool’s mass testing pilot, which is intended to show how regular, mass testing of the population can help the UK to control the pandemic; and Professor of Outbreak Medicine, Calum Semple, who shared his expertise on the likely progression of the virus, his perspective on the test and trace system, updates regarding a vaccine and current challenges in managing COVID.
Late last year, the Equalities and Human Rights Commission released their deeply concerning report into the racial harassment experienced by staff and students on UK university campuses. It was the catalyst for the University to set up a working group to examine this issue and other questions about how we can improve our performance on race equality, and become an actively anti-racist organisation. Professor Fiona Beveridge, Executive Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Humanities and Social Sciences, shared the working group’s recent report and discussed how we can help to build a more equitable and welcoming campus.
