Hello everyone, thank you for the invitation to interview for the extra in data and the human geography position and glad that you carry forward my application for the interviews round. So here is a quick agenda for my today's presentation. In part one, I will provide an overview of future. Research plan in Part 2. Great overview of my current research will be given and finally I will discuss how my research can fit their teaching and research. Missions of the Department of geography and planning and EU graphic data science research group. This is start with my future research plan. The main questions that drives my research is what is urban or this city and one of the most straightforward definition is a city is a system of systems and the systems can be grouped into three main systems. Social, technological and Ecological. And then the key question emerges from the definition and from this definition is how do the urban systems interact to generate a city that is resilient and sustainable? And here are my long and short term specific research questions. The first question is what kind of urban pattern do we want? The second question is this pattern resilient, and then the third question, is this pattern sustainable and equitable? And the last question is, is regarding my long term. My long term objective in which we will explore the previous three questions, read two separate turn of urban feature urban, add two different levels and city level and regional level. So here are my short term objectives. I mean here by short-term objective. Is the analysis at city level. So I plan to employ participatory versioning to codeveloped future visions that is resilient and or sustainable. Also, we will model projections for heat and floating. For each scenario, we will assist the. We will assess resilient for different systems in our cities and then we assist sustainability of different scenarios with different strategies. Anne. Then the next objective is identifying overlaps or interactions and contradictions between resilient and sustainability. And finally, we explore tradeoffs among resilient and sustainable strategy. There is a preliminary workflow for the research proposal that focuses on the city level analysis. We have four different work packages. The first one is about organizing and running a series of workshops with local stakeholders, including city authorities, academia, community based organizations and local residents. The outcome of these workshops will be sets of special and contemporary strategies, he says. Sets of different scenarios. Work package two has two mean two main themes. First is translating the outcomes of workshops into special rules, and the second thing is the development of an urban simulator to simulate different groups of strategies or scenarios. And the third work package who will assist the resilience of each scenario as a resilient each scenario to the key. Pressing weather extremes, heat and floats. Furthermore, there is alien of current infrastructure in terms of power or with a focus on power and water. Network is to extreme events and to the increased rate of Urban Development. Would be assist as well. Group package four. We will focus on sustainability assessment in terms of social, economic and environment. Who is focused on social segregation as many of his strategies to increase, resilient to heat and floats are by adding green infrastructure which might increase local housing costs and forcing low income dense tenants to relocate. Also, we will explore the potential impacts of proposed strategies on quality of life, equity, housing values, employment in terms of green jobs. Connectivity of or fragmentation of land, water and wetlands is and how that influences the ecosystem services in our cities. And finally we will organize a feedback workshops to discuss with stakeholders against outcomes of modeling. Sales and sustainability assessment work effects. And for the workshop will work with people who do transformative work on the ground and explore with them the possible strategies that are resilient and or sustainable. We will also also ask them to classify the purposes strategies into what is plausible and what is desirable. And the purpose set of strategies will be simulated with a novel agent based, say, automatic model that considers vertical classification, which is a novel feature of the proposed model regarding resilient to heat. We will use worth model and for floating I would like to collaborate with doctor Neil MacDonald from the Department of geography and planning who has done. Interesting world on urban flow. And for infrastructure. And for infrastructure we will try to get rich data for power and water networks. Otherwise we will generate sensitive infrastructure. Full length and housing values and prices who will assist us through his donnick pricing or Evonik? Aggression model. Otherwise, I would like also to collaborate with Doctor Jevon with doctor Gavin dunk from the Department of geography and planning at riverboat who has amazing work on the determinants of length, price, housing and land price. The quality of life for each scenario will be measured according to manufacturers, including access to amenities, average commute, commute time and or air quality. Also will measure equity in in terms of distribution of benefits and also risks among various social groups in our city. Actually, there is an explosion and the research is that look at urban set looks at urban as complex and integrated systems. But these studies, existing studies or projects focused mainly on resilience or sustainability. An compared to existing frameworks, our framework is more inclusive. And we will examine the interdependant impact of different strategies on both resilience and sustainability of our system and settings. Which is one of the key now. Aspects in our film or. Also, we will work with local stakeholders to envision future urban patterns. This will provide a great opportunity for public awareness of past. Current and future urban challenges. Regarding funding, I will seek funding for my research from various agencies, including economic and Social Research Council engineering and physical science Research Council. Both provide gnu investigator grants and I plan to submit applications there. So now I would like to share with you in the next few slides my current research. Currently I'm working on three different projects. The first one examines interdependant social Ferner ability to COVID-19 and weather in weather extremes in NYC. This project, funded by the US. A National Science Foundation and I am a cool Pi in this project. And I'm working on several papers nowadays related to access to urban green spaces, including during kovit. We contacted a social survey and now I'm analyzing special access to green spaces plus collecting, you located tweets using tweepy API and we will use these. You located tweets as a rabbit indicator of part Visitation and equitable part access during coffee. This work is still in progress and the hour every observation is that there is no Association between socioeconomic settings of different social groups in New York City, an access to green spaces. However, we found that greens fees per inhabitant imply that not all parties are created equal in terms of area. And of course small living spaces don't have enough space for lots of people to exercise civil during orbit. The second project is your ex urban resilience to its teams. In this project we work with local stakeholders to develop feature Zalian Visions for 9 USN Latin American cities. I'm leading the modeling team that includes land use, change heat and folding. We organize this except we organized a set of workshops and number of workshops with local state quarters in each city. And we translated the outcome of of workshops into urban patterns. Feature open patterns. Here I'm sharing with you Baltimore City case, and this region actually central Maryland region. People have proposed a number of strategies for city to be resilient feature about mode to be resilient to urban heat. So that one of the ministers is to convert highways there in route, highway into Greenway in order to provide a more green spaces, food, social activities and provide a room to water to infiltrate during the floats and also contribute to the resilience. Resilient to heat during its team events. Then we are working on a paper nowadays on this topic, in which we have modern hazard analysis, heat and float. As you can see here we have an improvement by implementing the proposed. The global strategies and improvement comparing to business as usual and actual situation interesting. And also we have an improvement, especially in urban areas. In every area's high, low and medium density area in terms of. The second project is converging sets social ecological technological systems for urban resilience. Here we are focusing only on resilience. Again, this project is a kind of child of your ex project in which we have knew 2 cities, Atlanta and New York City. An there is a quick discussion on how my research can contribute to the teaching in the Department and the my research can contribute to the research agenda of the geographic data research group. Mr Chris teaching I have extensive experience in the development and use of methodological approaches that work with complex data sources to study urban systems. During my current and past research, I have developed many models and used various machine learning and statistical methods to simulate land use, change urban systems and transport. I can contribute to some of your. Courses such as geographic data science, special modeling for data scientists, I can help students in applying a range of computer based techniques for the analysis of special data, including mapping, correlation analysis, PCA, analysis, regulation. Regression models machine learning methods in urban and urban studies and so on. And also broadly dream train in the interdisciplinary approaches that seek to generate action, actionable knowledge around urban climate challenges. And so this will help me to contribute to living with environmental change course in my current role. I am modeling resaler easily and resilience strategies, resilient structures that to a great extent, concern with the planning of green infrastructure. So I can also contribute to the green infrastructure planning course. And finally, social and spatial inequality scores my current work in COVID-19 and weather vulnerabilities in NYC Ann. Project I examined the uneven social and special distributions of covered and their relationships with indicators of social internal rate in New York City and also I I. I'm working on Xfinity of urban amenities, such as in spaces among the different social groups, so this will help me to contribute. Tools it social and spatial inequality. Of course. An I have also courses of my own that will fit into your curriculum as first course is urban resilience. The aim of this program of this course is to equip students with an understanding of the nature of urban resilience to weather. A resilient to weather extremes with a focus on floating through the course. Will consist of four main modules, two theoretical modules. If you urban resilient concepts. An assessment of easily resilience project and two practical modules. Quantify coaster and fluvial floating impacts and develop and implement strategies for increasing resilience through land use planning. And this of course is land use change with the focus on urbanization modeling, this is an important course as land use planning plays an important role in resilient and sustainable strategies. The course will have 5 main modules, detect and map urban expansion with Google earth engine. Statistical models such as logistic regression, stochastic models, series, automatic, an agent based an agent based models. The course will have well equipped students with technical skills to detect and map land use changes. Student also will have will be able to describe land use change process by means of computational models. Finally, I would like to close my presentation with my possible contribution to. Geographic data science lab. I found my research interest fits very well with geographic data science lab and research agendas that uses geographic data science to explore new insights into the dynamics, composition, and complexity of cities and regions, especially in our shared goals. To advance knowledge on geographies of resilience. Exclusion and opportunity. My research, well advance, urban resilience and sustainability planning approaches more general. Another should research theme between my research, my own research interests and. His research themes of. Geographic data science research group is geographic data science is pioneering you, you graphic data science methodology and applications. Actually, we will produce a set of tools. Free and free and Open Access tools that have applicability not only for the UK cities but also for other cities. Across the. An an. I plan to involve students from the Department in my future research. I also well suppose. My students and will help my students to network with my network, my own network in United States and UK in Belgium, in Luxembourg, in Germany, which is good for their future career. I will also collaborate with my future colleagues in different themes such as floating data analysis and so on. And so thank you so much and talk soon bye.
