Celebrating the naming of The Dorothy Kuya Hall of Residence

About this video

Created to mark a special day in our University history, as we celebrated the renaming of Gladstone Hall to The Dorothy Kuya Hall of Residence.

Dorothy Kuya, born in Toxteth L8, was a tireless campaigner for social justice and race equality, and was a driving force in establishing the International Slavery Museum and the annual Slavery Remembrance Day.

It is important that the names used within the University reflect our values of openness, transparency and respect. Renaming the halls means Dorothy and her activism can continue to inspire future generations of students!

You can read our blogpost about the life of Dorothy Kuya and why the halls were renamed.
